CHAPTER 3

Mo-hee, who was in his arms, did not even know that she was completely hidden when viewed from behind.

“Too close.”

Did she drain all the moisture from her body while crying? Her mouth felt like it was burning. Her tongue was so dry that she was afraid that even her voice might come out.

“One step at a time, one step at a time, you have to take your steps carefully. Like a baby.”

It was a clear sound, but his voice held no laughter.

“Please be careful. If someone sees…”

She didn’t understand what she was hearing.

Maybe it was because the man’s beautiful face was so close. He smiled like a flower before he could even look back on the meaning of the obscene words that he just uttered. It was a splendid and frightening smile, like a flower that bloomed after eating a lot of poison.

“Hic, I need to find His Majesty…”

“Are you saying that you’ll give your life to find the emperor who’ll become a madman during a full moon?”

His words contained friendliness and poignant words.

If anyone hears it, he may be charged with treason. Mo-hee looked around reflexively. Cho Woon’s eyes hold a smile and look closely at her attitude and gestures.

“Are you going to tell them that I said something useless?”

Mo-hee’s eyes trembled. It was the first time that she had seen him today. There was no reason to tell.

She shook her head. She didn’t want to see anyone else die in the Imperial Place anymore. Especially if it was because of her.

“You have committed treason together with me,” Cho Woon whispered as if this was a big deal. He was still hugging Mo-hee’s waist, and his breath seemed to blend in. The man’s skin, as white as white jade, glistened in front of her eyes.

“I have to go back to my place now.”

She struggled to get away from the man. However, his tightly wound hand did not come loose easily.

“Will you go to the palace and tell people about what I said?”

“No, I will go back and return to my quarters and not tell a soul about you.”

Mo-hee’s voice trembled softly. Even if he killed her and left her body there, no one would think about it, an unnamed court lady, dead. Especially today because it was a full moon. It was a day when someone will be buried in the name of the emperor.

She got goosebumps. A cold sweat dripped down Mo-hee’s temple.

His eyes, colder than the north wind, ran across her face. The gaze that watched her every single movement, even her shaky eyes, seemed to measure her.

Would she live? Or would she be killed?

“How can I make a mistake and kill my wife?”

“Ha?” Mo-hee, opening her mouth, was filled with a light of true injustice.

“I’m trying to get you, right?” Cho Woon asked seriously.

“I’m really going to my place and fall asleep like I’m dead.”

The emperor’s right hand man his shadow, which collects information and works as his shadow executing his power without being felt by other power hungry people in the palace.

“No matter what I say, I don’t have any position so nobody will pay attention to me,” Mo-hee said as faint as a whisper.

“I’m still anxious, so I’ll do what pleases me then.”

“Huh?”
