SIDESTORY - CHAPTER 1.1

INTRODUCTION

“How are you? From being the wife of the General’s successor to being the General’s wife and now to being my woman, I, who is the Emperor this time.”

Ki Hae-woon,  the emperor's most trusted general. Taking advantage of his absence, the King took advantage of Eun Seol. The wife of the general was summoned to the palace.

The ruler of the Baek empire who is known for his young appearance and cruel nature, summoned Eunseol and tricked her into going to the deepest part of the palace with a blunt proposal…

Chapter 1

The moon was shining down brightly. Eunseol placed her hands on her forehead creating a shadow on her face. Her body moved forward little by little.

Present.

It's been a while since I heard the sound of a horse's hoof. A smile swept through my face upon hearing the familiar beat. I held the reins in one hand and spoke fluently.

As soon as the Imperial Palace neared, I stopped looking away, I only looked at the front.

There were four escorts in front of me and more than twenty privates behind me.

The emperor's call was sudden. It was around the time of peace in the kingdom. After the long war between the Baek empire and the Giran kingdom, Hae-woon went on his way to the border to meet the Giran kingdom’s princess who was sent as the emperor's concubine in order to establish reconciliation.

Those in golden armor forced the gates open and came in, calling Eunseol loudly.

“It's a royal command! Open the door for Eunseol, the wife of the Imperial General!”

Anxiety crept in as she headed on. In a situation where you need to be at your best, Eunseol kept on reminding herself to be calm. She was the master of Jangwan while the general was away. If she was pressured by her position that was responsible for their family members, the rumour will spread like wildfire.

The messenger delivered the Emperor's command to grant Eunseol entrance to the palace. Eunseol couldn't understand why the Emperor would call for her. She had never seen the Emperor.

With trembling hands on her sleeve, Eun-seol tried to remain calm.

Since everything had been prepared, Eunseol refused to follow it right away. At that moment, the messenger, who was with Eunseol, spewed out as if he was going to explode at any time.

It was like a battlefield.

“I don’t need a carriage or a palanquin, I’ll go on my own.”

“It is demeaning to have the Emperor wait for someone.” With those words in his mouth, the messenger left the manor displeased.

"You're not even nervous."

Saya told Eun-seol, who was smiling on the horse.

Saya Min, as the daughter of Heung, the family of Gi (觀) was sent to Jangwon, Geummun. She advanced slowly. Her temper was gentle and she was upright and loyal. She resembled the beauty of control.

"Now you're pretty good at riding horses."

“If a government official of General Geummun uses honorific language to his subordinates, they will be able to identify that person. I begged you not to do that,” Eun-seol said, barely changing her tone. “It’s awkward. I can't believe you smiled even though you were lying to me. You are as bright as I am.”

“Because you thought so,” Saya answered while driving her horse closer to Eunseol.

“Don't worry.” Eun-seol smiled when Saya’s gaze dropped to her stomach. "It's okay. The child is healthy."

“The carriage would have been better. It's such a hot day, you should cover it. You don't have any curves yet. What if you get hot?”

“Saya seems to keep forgetting that I lived on the battlefield,” Eunseol answered with a small smile. From the front to the back, the guards were very nervous about the person they were guarding. The whole season seemed peaceful.

“I’m afraid that the General would come back and scold us. I'm more afraid of the General than Her Majesty."

“Hush,” Eunseol put a finger in front of her lips and raised her head. Saya kept her mouth shut. She was trying to remain calm, but why did the King summoned her to the palace? Eunseol herself was more curious and afraid than anyone else.

"No one will see me if I ride in a carriage."

I have to show them how I’m doing until the end. I can’t waver. At least for Haewoon, the owner of the Golden Gate Manor. His honor must not be tarnished until he returns home.
